Introduction to Meditative Breathing

Slow down and relax! Meditation is a beneficial way to restore balance in the body and mind. In the Taoist tradition, postures are performed while meditating on the breath. Breathing is performed with a certain rhythm which is usually slower and deeper than the way most people normally breathe. This type of breathing causes brainwave cycles to slow down thereby enducing a much more relaxed state of mind. Practicing breathing meditation over time results in changes in how a person thinks, feels, reasons and reacts. Along with a healthier mental state, your physical health may also improve. Meditators usually experience a greater sense of creativity, joy, self-awareness, peace of mind and even self-discipline!
Join us for a session of light stretching, some deep meditation and a Taoist sequence of healing postures that benefit all of the internal organs. The session will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at the Growing Green Cooperative. Mat and blankets are provided at no charge.
Afterward, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, or a healthy vegetarian breakfast at the Alchemy Cafe (next door to the Co-op).
