Introduction to Meditative Breathing $5 to $10 Doantion Requested Slow down and relax! Meditation is a beneficial way to restore balance in the body and mind. In the Taoist tradition, postures are performed while meditating on the breath. Breathing is performed with a certain rhythm which is usually slower and deeper than the way most people normally breathe. This type of breathing causes brainwave cycles to slow down thereby enducing a much more relaxed state of mind. Practicing breathing meditation over time results in changes in how a person thinks, feels, reasons and reacts. Along with a healthier mental state, your physical health may also improve. Meditators usually experience a greater sense of creativity, joy, self-awareness, peace of mind and even self-discipline! Join us for a session of light stretching, some deep meditation and a Taoist sequence of healing postures that benefit all of the internal organs. The session will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at the Growing Green Cooperative. Mat and blankets are provided at no charge. Afterward, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, or a healthy vegetarian breakfast at the Alchemy Cafe (next door to the Co-op).

Indoor yoga just can't compare to practicing in the great outdoors. This 3-hour yoga hike at Wadsworth Falls State Park incorporates Taoist yoga postures, stretching exercises and meditation done at scenic areas of the park. We will start with some Qi Qong movement and breathing at the small brook near the picnic tables. At the first water fall, Little Falls, we'll practice some standing and sitting Taoist yoga poses with breathing meditation. Finally, we will arrive at Wadsworth Falls to do some more meditation and a group energy-sharing circle to say goodbye. Please pack a light lunch and bring a blanket or a mat to practice on. The cost of the hike is $5-$15 (sliding scale) to cover meetup costs. There will be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8 participants. Beginners are welcome! You will receive instructions on how to move in and out of the yoga and Qigong postures safely. Frequently Asked Questions: What should I bring to a Yoga Hike? 1) Wear comfortable clothing that allows some range of motion for the yoga stretches and Qigong exercises. Layers may be appropriate depending on the weather. 2) Trail running shoes or light hiking boots will provide support, yet allow enough range of motion for the yoga postures. Tennis shoes are also fine. 3) Sunglasses and/or a hat are recommended. Sunblock may also be necessary. 4) Bring a water bottle or a drink for hydration. 5) Tissue paper may be a good idea if you need to use the "facilities" behind a tree or bush. There are bathrooms at the parking area you can use at the beginning and end of the hike.

THE CONDUIT Vibrational Sound Massage Concert: 7-8:30pm $5 donation requested. Join us for a concert of vibrational sounds including gongs, tibetan singing bowls and tingshas. This concert will be a community healing/meditation for our physical beings and the earth. THE CONDUIT, a group that brings the resonance of yoga to Connecticut, presents this amazing kick-off concert for their national tour, Gonging the Planet. The concert starts at 7 pm at the Growing Green Cooperative next door to Alchemy Cafe and Juice Bar. Out of silence is born sound. Out of nothingness the Gongs bring forth elemental energies that affect us in positive ways. Gongs produce a complete spectrum of harmonics that are based on pressure waves and natural frequencies. The gong sound vibrates the energy meridians in the body and brings them into balance while awakening, clearing, and balancing the chakras.
