This group is intended for those who currently study the Great Tao and wish to practice Taoism with others on a similar path. Also, for those who are new to this ancient wisdom and desire to learn more.
This meetup group recently has made the transition to a Tao discussion group to becoming, quite possibly, the only Taoist temple in Michigan (if there are others, please let me know). The name of our temple is Chan Lu Fo Tang. We are one of the newest branches of the I-Kuan Tao temple, which is based out of Taiwan. Please go to taoism.net or truetao.org for more information about I-Kuan Tao.
We practice philosophical Taoism and religious Taoism at our gatherings. Our members are free to decide which flavor of Taoism they wish to practice. We respect the individual beliefs of our members and no one is pressured to participate in anything that they feel may compromise their spiritual belief system.
Kindly go to the "About" section of this page to view our Frequently Asked Questions about Tao and I-Kuan Tao.
We meet at the home of Jackie and Michael, who started this group.
"The existence of the Tao in the world is like streams in the valley flow into rivers and the ocean" -Tao Te Ching, 32
Lunch and Tao discussion. We will share a vegetarian meal and socialize. Next, we will discuss chapter 71 of the Tao Te Ching (Yes, I know it is out of order-Darn those Confusionist's rules of order!). There will also be time for prayer and meditation.
Here is the suggested agenda for our meetings, though we may stray a bit from it.
12:00-12:45 Lunch and fellowship
12:45-2:00 Tao Discussion
2:00-2:30 Prayer and meditation
“ I really think that if you use a flexible schedule and cover the spiritual as well as other aspects of the Tao this couuld really be something good. ”
“ The meetings are quite informative. The tao is read, discussed, and reflected upon to provide us with daily inspiration. ”
This group doesn't have any additional upcoming Meetups scheduled.
You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
